Introduction

Fu Jen Catholic University is well recognized for its teaching, research, internationalization, and creativity. It is one of the comprehensive universities in Taiwan. The College of Science and Engineering is one of eleven academic colleges in Fu Jen Catholic University. Since the beginning, it has taken the responsibility of educating students to become advanced scientists and engineers. The College consists of 6 departments, 1 multidisciplinary Ph.D. program ( Applied Science and Engineering), 1 Chemistry Ph.D. program, and 2 research centers, with nearly 130 faculty and 3,340 students.

As part of the College of Science and Engineering, the predecessor of the Department of Electrical Engineering is the Department of Electronic Engineering. The Department of Electronic Engineering was founded in 1977. The department's Master's program has been established since 1998. Its in-service Master's program has been set up since 2001. The Ph.D. program was established and integrated into the Graduate Institute of Applied Science and Engineering in 2002. Since 2010, the Department of Electronic Engineering and Electrical Engineering were merged as the Department of Electrical Engineering.

Especially, since 2012 the Department of Electrical Engineering has been accredited by the IEET(Institute of Engineering Education Taiwan), which is a member of Washington Accord, recognized by all the members worldwide. This accreditation is not only a proof of the department's quality of teaching and research, but also enhances the competitiveness in job markets all over the world for students.

The research and teaching specialization in the Department of Electrical Engineering includes four areas: (1) communication, (2) computer and network, (3) system engineering and (4) VLSI/CAD.
  • Communication: The focus is on communication system technologies, such as the third and the fourth generation communication systems, signal processing for wireless, system analysis, communication chip design, RF circuit design and radar system design.
  • Computer and Network: the focus is on computer system integration technology, such as the development of multimedia system in image processing, pattern recognition, heterogeneous network, network communication and computer system applications.
  • System engineering: the focus is on system engineering technology, such as variable structure control, intelligent control, power electronics, electromagnetic compatibility and electromagnetic interference, and medical electronic system such as biomedical ultrasound.
  • VLSI/CAD: the focuse is on the chip system design techniques, such as the communication IC design, mixed analog-digital VLSI design, multimedia VLSI design, VLSI testing and design automation, and embedded system design.
Our undergraduate students have many opportunities to apply for exchange programs. With approximately 280 partner universities, undergraduate students can choose an international university at which they want to study. More information can be found at
The college internationalization also offers our students opportunities to pursue "Dual Bachelor's-Master's Degrees". The agreements of Accelerated Degree Programs with international institutions can be found as follows:
